Strategic Pricing: Nvidia’s Bold Move with RTX 4060 Ti 16GB to Challenge AMD’s RDNA 3

Nvidia has strategically priced the high-end RTX 4060 Ti variant, which boasts an astounding 16GB of VRAM compared to the original 8GB version, lower.

A significant price reduction of $50 has lowered the RTX 4060 Ti 16GB from its previous US pricing of $499 to $449. This price cut closes the gap with the 8GB model for $399.

This 10% price decrease is expected to be mirrored in many different parts of the world.

Nvidia reportedly said, “Finally, as a reminder, market prices can vary from the original launch MSRPs,” according to reports from Wccftech. At $599, the GeForce RTX 4070 is currently readily accessible, while the GeForce RTX 4060 Ti 16GB is now only $449.

RTX 4060 Ti 16GB interestingly briefly fell below $449, as spotted by VideoCardz, who also noted a PNY variant of the card retailing for $431 on Amazon.com before selling out.

An Analysis of a Strategic Move

According to recent rumors, Nvidia’s price cut is a deliberate response to AMD’s upcoming release of its new RDNA 3 mid-range graphics cards.

As a formidable graphics card industry competitor, AMD recently launched the RX 7800 XT and 7700 XT. AMD pitted the 7700 XT against Nvidia’s 4060 Ti 16GB in their promotional materials, showing performance advantages ranging from 15% to 30% in well-known titles at 1440p resolution.

Nvidia acknowledges specific successes, particularly in Doom Eternal (with ray tracing), where the RTX 4060 Ti 16GB outscored its rival by 9%, even though benchmark cherry-picking may have a part to play.

Right before AMD’s GPU launches on September 6, Nvidia decided to reduce the RTX 4060 Ti 16GB price to match that of the 7700 XT. This shows that the company intends to compete aggressively in the mid-range market. Nvidia aims to attract customers, especially those seeking the future-proofing offered by 16GB of VRAM (present in the 7800 XT but absent in the 7700 XT, with prospective price reductions already noted), by reducing the price and raising the likelihood that custom 7700 XT machines will exceed $450 in cost.
